    Service Now Warning

    Hi,

I have a 99.9 B5 Variant. I had the car serviced about 6 weeks ago, but it has started showing this warning with the irritating beep upon every start up. I am assuming the tech just forgot to resest this when he serviced it. Is there a way to clear this without VAG-COM or going back to my service guy?

    Appreciate any help.

P.S I wondered what would happen to CB5 when the B6 came out, guess I now know.

Try holding in the clock changing "stalk" when switching the ignition on. By turning it left and/or right without letting it out when the ignition comes on, you can reset the service interval warning beep. The details were in the user manual for my 1998 1.8T so have a look in yours... If nothing happens reply again and I'll see if I can dig out the old manual (I have a 2002 W8 now and have not looked or tried it)..

    From the manual :

If the service is not performed by a VW dealer the display must be rest as follows:

    - With the ignition switched off, press and hold the trip meter reset button below the speedometer.
    - Turn the knob to reset the minutes on the digital clock to the right. "service ---" appears in the display.

    Notes:

    - Only the desired service may be reset. The date for the service would otherwise be incorrect. You can switch between the individual services by pressing the reset knob.

    Good luck

    Chris

molltrud - thanks for the info, I will try it out on the weekend. My service was done by a VAG specialist not a dealer.

    cheers

Thanks guys, I did this on the weekend and it worked. Glad to get rid of that beep.. Who would have thought the owners manual would be the place to look :-)

    Cheers

    Resetting the service interval display
    -----------------------------------
"service OIL" or "service INSP" is shown on trip recorder display.
    - Switch ignition off.
    - Press the "trip" reset knob and switch ignition on
(while the "trip" reset knob still is down).
    - Release the "trip" reset knob.
    - It will now show "OIL"
    - Press "trip" resetknob and hold it until it shows "INSP"
    - If you do it one more time it wil show "OIL" again....
    > if you want to reset "OIL" it must show "OIL".
    > if you want to reset "INSP" it must show "INSP"
    - Turn clock adjusting knob to right.
(If instrument cluster has an analogue clock, pull adjustment knob out)
    - Service shown on trip recorder is reset and three dashes (---) appear on display.
    - Switch ignition off.
(Switching ignition off cancels display for service)
*Service interval display is now reset*
