Reading the YouTube comment field, a Mercedes Benz specific spring compressor was in place ... it failed.

With regards to this one, if your going to do it the wrong way at least use some protection. I have done this a few times but I used a giant wool blanket over the entire thing tucked it and only thing sticking out was a impact gun on the top nut and go for it

FWIW when I do this I use the much more sturdy looking dual clamp set that attaches to either side of the strut, I've never had any issues before. I suspect that the Mercedes strut compressor is to strut compressors as the VW/Audi widowmaker jack is to automotive jacks, which is to say "a mildly disguised death trap"
