I'm not getting power to the ecu and fuses 28,29,32 i think the problems is with how the ecu relay is wired been going over the wiring diagrams for both engines but having trouble understanding the diagrams. The v8 engine code is awn and v6 is atq.
This is a belt driven V8? I've been thinking about this swap a bit now. Looks like there is a bit more room over the A4's that this engines been going into a lot. You may want to swing over to Audizine where there's been about 5-6 of these swaps performed in A4's.
Yea its out of an 01 A6 Audi. Yea it does have more room then the A4.
Audizine is where i got the ideal, thought i would try here first since its a passat. We also swappedo my brothers A4 had tt change a few plugs fired right up, the passat ecu relay is wired different having trouble figuring it out. Here's his
Got it fire now going to send ecu out to get the immobilizer written out tomorrow. Yea most of the wiring was the same had to move a few wires around. Pin 21 is how ecu its power put power to it and car started but immobilizer kick in.
Yea it was badgeless I took the mesh out to paint it, there pins on bottom to hold it in the bumper had to take them off to get the mesh out. The paint orange peel on it so got repaint. Yea i does seem like most of them are dark colors.
Yea thats cause when i took those pictures i still needed to do some trimming to the radiator. The v8 radiator is a lot bigger the v6 radiator had to do a lot of trimming to get it fit.
I don't know about the V8. In the ATQ fuse 32 is powered when the ign is switched on, but fuses 28, 29, and 34 are not
powered until the ECU sees the engine turning. (except for about 1 second after the ign is switched on)
Yea did a TBA and hard crash i think there is an issue with the wiring. Tried different throttlebody and gas pedal with i try to adpated it just said error and goes back to measuring blocks haven't had to time mess with lately.
In reply to your PM; I don't believe you have a power supply problem to the ECU.
I don't have info on the 4.2, and don't know if any parts are interchangeable.
The throttle body, ECU, and pedal assembly must all be correct for the engine and check that they are wired correctly.
(Other sensors such as the MAFS must also be correct for the engine)
You will need to run a successful TBA.
Just because you don't see the point doesn't mean anything. The A6 is bigger and heavier, and frankly not nearly as nice looking as the B5.5 imo. Also people like doing engine swaps? Maybe his old engine was bad and needed replaced anyways? These swaps aren't terribly hard as the chassis they come out of are very similar and most of the hard work is in the wiring.
It is a bit shorter, but it's also like twice as wide and at least twice as complicated, and because of how wide and tight it is in these cars it's extremely hard to do anything on the engine without taking it out. Even smaller jobs, either way it doesn't take much to put the 4.2 into the Passat, they put them in B5 A4's all the time which have shorter engine bays than our cars and require a bit more modification to fit. If you ever look at a B6 S4 it's fit very tightly to the front of the car, in fact the radiator support is almost over the front of the engine. It's even more cramped in the B5 A4.
Actually the 4.2 is about the same weight as the 2.8, and is actually lighter than the 2.7T. The reason is that the 2.8/2.7 use a cast iron block where as the 4.2 uses an aluminum block. All of this is easily found via google.
No it doesn't, you are comparing it's weight to the W8, I'm comparing it to the 2.8 and 2.7T, the 2.8 of which comes in the B5/5.5 Passat and the 2.7T which is a popular swap.
My car has the V-6 2.8L, GLX. Putting a higher-power engine in such a car might cause problems. The transmission may need to be upgraded to handle the additional torque, for one thing, and the suspension may need to be upgraded to handle the additional weight.
Why not either get an A-6 with the 4.2 V8, or a W8 Passat? This makes no sense at all, to me.
As I said, the 4.2 is around the same weight as the 2.8, I believe it's actually slightly less weight. Also the TIP shouldn't have any problems with the stock torque, at least it hasn't in any of the swaps already performed (which there are many). It makes no sense to you fine? Why sit here and argue about it? Move on? Or are you interested in trolling? If you can't see the value of the work, then obviously it's not for you.
Also so you know, the A-6 with the 4.2 V8 had the same transmission options as the Passats and the A4's.
Not sure what you mean. Are they the same transmissions, or beefed up versions? The car is a bit heavier, after all...
