    How to unplug ABS module?

I'm trying to unplug the ABS module to see if my tach will start working because I am tired of looking at a dead tach needle. I went to a shop to scan for any codes and nothing came up so imma try this option.. Can anyone tell me or show me where to u plug the abs module ? Thanks !

Assuming (from your screen name) that it's a B5: ModuleMaster | 98-01 VW Passat Info

one more thing...i dont actually know if its the same common problem as other b5 members becasue my tach doesnt work at all only only works once in a blue moon but when it does decides to work the oil light will come on and start beeping, but i dont know if the ABS/brake light comes on because i have feeling the light on the cluster for ABS/BRAKE blew out...so should i still try to unplug the ABS module? and does unplugging the ABS module mean taking the whole thing out of the car? or just like pulling one plug? im brain dead when it comes to these stuff lol

If you can reach it, you should be able to just unplug the connector (step 4 on the Module Master page). I believe you will get an ABS warning of some kind on the dash when you do this, but it may get the tach working again.

I don't know about your instrument cluster problem, but if you want to scan for codes then you only need to remove the two connectors from the abs module, not the whole module itself. That link should give you all the help you need, I used the same one when I tried to get my code reader to work.

After reading a little more (including 1.8t_noob's post), I think there are 2 connectors. I had forgotten that.

    Good luck!

So im guessing it's step 3 and 4 from the link ? And it's fine driving it disconnected too right?

yup step 3 and 4. yes its essentially driving without having abs but the brakes are still fine and if the abs module wasn't working to begin with then you wouldn't have abs anyway

Ok I just unplugged one connector because in the process of disconnect the connector in step 4 I kinda broke the clip lmao. But the tach is working now so I'll just leave it till another time to figure out how to disconnect it with a broken clip .. But thanks for the info guys

after unplugging the main connector to the abs ,the red abs light will come on with all wistles and bells.do not worry:just cut black plasticelectrotape 2 inches and tape it over the useless indicator lamps inside :simple stoneage tech, but it works fine and does not make you any more nervous!good luck bushdoctor

The ABS light doesn't come on but I have a new problem and that's te oil light that's constantly flashing ...is that because I didn't unplug the second connector?

Have you used a pressure gage to make sure your oil pressure is ok? If the low oil pressure is actually triggering the light (which I would think it is now that you've unplugged to likely broken ABS module), you don't want to be driving that car until you get that figured out.

Also, I believe the oil pressure warning on the dash is disabled while the engine is under 2000 rpm, so you can't tell that way. The only real way to check is to hook up a pressure gauge to the oil system. Significantly lower than that, and there are likely to be lubrication problems within the engine. I have a 1.8t, not a V-6 (I think that's what you have from your profile page), so I'm not too familiar as to what to look for there other than the obvious - possible oil pump or major leak problem, or low oil level. I know V-6s do generally burn more oil, so maybe you accidentally let it get a little low?

Why'd you stop with just the first connector? The ABS module can cause all sorts of fascinating problems; pull the second connector and then you'll be working with a system in a known state.

At first I only disconnected the itsy connector cause I couldn't find the second one cause it was too dark.. But even after disconnecting both connectors te oil light still flashes consistently

I would say it mgiht be something with the system. As I had my factory oil pressure sender unplugged for a few days after I got my oil gauge installed and it would only sound when the car ran over 2k. When the car got back under the light would go off until i get above 2k again and after a few times it would stay on till i cut the car off.
