    B5.5 on Top Gear!

Or a very small part anyway. Just watching Hammond review the Mastretta MXT from Mexico and I spot a VW bit.

Top left, thats a B5.5 (possibly also B5) door pull!!!

Lots of "3rd-party-parts-bin" stuff in there; those dash vents look familiar (non-VW... Mazda or Nissan?), as does the wiper stalk (Toyota?). It makes sense; if you are making a short-run sports car, you want to keep your custom-molded plastic parts, and fiddly switchgear as few as possible. It's way cheaper to buy misc. parts-bin units rather than roll your own.

I wonder who makes the engine; the prototype was a 2.slow from a Jetta. The production version is a 240HP 2.0T of some sort. Maybe another VW/Audi engine?

It uses a 2.0t ford engine.

That is correct. Build quality looks really shoddy though, the hood was moving wildly during TG filming.
