    GT2871R Eliminator Question

    Hi All,

My car is for sale, but if it doesn't sell I'm going BT with my tax return. I have one odd question that I can't find the answer to anywhere. Are all eliminator turbos the same regardless of longitudinal or transverse engine applications?

IE: Can I buy a GT2871R from a transverse motor GTI owner and put it on my longitudinal motor 4Motion Passat and still have everything bolt right in?

Are you buying a complete kit or just the turbo?

The turbo itself might work but almost everything else will be different. the position of the motor makes all of the other parts different

I don't know, other parts might work. I mean the manifold is the stock one correct?

You should just get one for a longitudinal engine. The downpipe, manifold, and exhaust side of the turbo will all be different.

Or find a full frame T25 or T3 flanged 2871r.

I'm speaking specifically about the turbo only. I plan on running everything else stock except the inter-cooler. I don't want to swap headers either.

The reason I ask is because there are 100 eliminators on VW Vortex from transverse cars and 0 for longitudinal. I don't plan on maxing the turbo out but everyone warns to get the elim and skip the GT28 because you'll always want more. So that's my plan of attack.

The eliminator turbo for a transverse engine still won't fit, it's made to be mated with a different exhaust manifold.

Buy a used transverse elim, buy a new hot side for a longitudinal engine, and then you can have your elim. But at that point you might as well just buy a new elim that fits in the first place.

Sure it is. The compressor and CHRA are the same.

But I've answered him in two threads, on two forums:

Thank you twice. The A4 is more like my car so I like to cover the spread.

I don't have my B5 anymore, so I'm the B6 A4 forum now. I stick around here because I like the people better, and it's still the same engine so the same information. I hope you got the answers you were looking for (though, they weren't the answers you were hoping for).

FWIW, you can piece together a used kit with parts here and there for relatively cheap - that's what I did. Just keep an eye out for a 2871r elim or gtrs elim (can upgrade it to 71r) for a longitudinal engine on the classifieds. Or go full frame with a new mani and pick up any T25 or T3 2871r

Yeah, that's what I'm working on, I hadn't considered upgrading a GTRS though. Top tip! Thanks.
