    Might have an idle issue

So I dropped my wife off at school and at a few stop lights the car shakes pretty good. The car is idling at 800 rpm, is that a normal idle speed. I know my other car idles at 1200rpm. I am going to change the plugs today maybe that will help. Oh it's a 2002 passat wagon 1.8t thanks for the advice.

I idle at around 800rpm in my 1.8, sounds normal to me as long as it's steady.

You should search these things first, btw. I'm sure "1.8t idle rpm" would turn up all the info you'd need.

How long have you had the car? Do you know if the timing belt has been changed? If not, it is about due at 73,xxx miles, along with the water pump and other associated parts. Good luck figuring this out. I know my 98 1.8t sometimes idles rough and I get misfire codes for no good reason, then I turn it off, clear codes, and re-start with no more problems. It goes 6 months or so between times when it does this. I think the car just wants to make sure I'm paying attention to it.

The idle should be computer stabilized around 800 - 850 RPM at operating temperature. 1200 is the "fast" idle speed that should only occur within a certain range of coldish temperatures.
