how about a DIY for $50 or less? then you can use any oil you want.

then, you know exactly what oil was used, what filter was used, and that it was filled correctly...

jay, happy new year man. I can't DIM because I live in buffalo, and temperature lately is below 15 degrees. If it was summer time, yeah I'll DIM.

its so cold I doubt the fire will stay lit on my body to keep me warm. Only solution is a garage, which is currently filled with a lotta equipments and machines.

15? That is way too cold. No friend with a heated garage? I'm all for spending cash on the quality stuff over the convenience stuff. Does Royal Purple not rate well in this forum?

The dealers around here use Castrol or Valvoline; I wouldn't say Mobil is any different. I'd take the dealership. However, ouch on the price. My dealer here in Pennsylvania charges about $50, AND there's a buy 5, get one free punch card.

I had a friend that use to live in PA. He told me once he had to replace the Clutch on his pickup when it was snowing once. His solution was to lay a mat on the ground, drape old blankets around the truck (after getting it jacked up) and running an extension cord and an electric heater under the truck. It is funny now but I give him an A for creativity in trying to keep warm.

I did mine with Mobil1 and K&N filter for $30 last weekend outside. Since each step takes like 3 minutes, I tossed on a sweatshirt and went inside while I waited. Helluva lot better than paying $85 for the same thing..

    But hey, it's your money!

You live in Buffalo. Tough it out.

Then next year make sure you change your oil just before the cold sets in so you can wait until spring for the next.

I give you guys credit. I'm in SoCal, work on the Passat/A4 in my garage, and even then complain about the cold when it's 60F outside.

Hey I live in the southeast corner of Alabama, if it is cold outside I come back in and wait 10 minutes, lol.

I vote for dealer. Every time I take it to other people they always lose some of the various screws to the belly pan. Never had a problem with the dealer. Or wait for a warm spell - got lucky last month and was able to do it myself when it was 57F outside for a couple of days.

If you HAVE to, dealer. That will assure you're not getting a Fram ultraguard or something. Tell them for that price, you want Mann or another OEM filter.

lol, reminds me of the time I had to pull a motor in the middle of winter in my driveway. I couldn't fit the car and the cherry picker in the garage, it wasn't deep enough.
