Passat B5 - Heated Seats Issue?

The temperature has been -10 deg C or below this week.

I just got the 2000 Passat B5 2 weeks ago. Yesterday, I turned on the heated seats for myself and my passenger yesterday at the highest setting (5) and found it took about 4 minutes to feel any warmth (on both seats) and there after it got pretty hot over the next few minutes and we dialed down to 2.

Does it usually take this long on average on the Passat to heat up or is something wrong here? On the 2011 Hyundai Elantra the heating can be felt within the minute at the higest setting.

I don't think that's an unreasonable amount of time. I think mine take a minute or two longer than that even.

Interesting. Maybe older cars were slower. If most Passats take a few minutes, than its the way the system was designed back then. So its fine. But if it was only my car than could have been a problem that could be fixed.

Btw, figure out what to do with the steering wheel and shifter knob? I am thinking of covering both of them with neoprene fabric (stuff laptop cases are made out of) for the winter.

Yeah, it's been killer cold lately eh? For steering wheel and shifter I just wear gloves Can't wait for the summer! Put the sunroof down and get the motorcycle out.

My seats take a good 15 mins to warm up completely (setting 5). I have a 2001 B5. I have also thought it to be strange that it takes so long to heat up. My wife has a 2004 Saturn vue and her seats take about 30 seconds.
