    A critter destroyed my wiring!

A week back my car threw multiple codes for both O2 sensors and the manifold sensors (pressure and ambient pressure?), I figured it had to be either a bad harness connection or the ECM was acting up. I finally had a chance to look at this weekend... first I noticed that one of the wires going into the headlight was chewed.... removing the coolant reservoir I found another a broken wire (manifold sensor maybe), then a bunch of fur stuck to old oil near the oil filter... then the claw marks on some of the frame, the harness to the JUST REPLACED second O2 sensor was completely chewed through.... WTF!

This is a daily driver, it wasn't stored anywhere... this all happened in one night, maybe over the weekend. This is not going to be cheap to fix at a dealer or even indy shop (just the one O2 sensor is $100's at the dealer...), so:

Think insurance will cover this (I have USAA)?
    Can I splice the wires?

Maybe this is a sign from above it's time to let the B5 go ....

My 740 Volvo wagon had its wiring destroyed by a rat (and family?) having set up housekeeping in the engine compartment. State Farm paid off on its comprehensive policy. It was deemed to be too expensive to repair, beyond the value of the car. The settlement check subsidized the cost of my "new" Passat B5.5 wagon.

    It's a 2001 B5 (AUG engine).

Do you have comprehensive coverage on your car? If you do USAA will cover it (great company in my experience). Any damage done by animals nesting/destroying any part of the car is covered, and since it's a comp claim you shouldn't have to worry about your rates going up (at least that's how it's done at The Hartford.) Before you even call them to ask if it's covered, you should find out what your deductible is and if you think it would exceed that, because any time you call your insurers claims department they do record it as a claims inquiry and some companies look at that unfavorably.
