    found a W8-

Advertised with a motor that needs rebuild or new. 2002, auto,$2000.00 FIRM. Saw motors advertised for between $1500. and $3000. Haven't called the owner, but $2000 for a bad motor car seems high, at least to cheap me.

What's the opinion of more informed members.

2000, plus engine cost, plus install cost, better be below what you would pay for a running W8 in the same condition.

You would spend at least another 4-5k to get another motor installed. I have not seen a W8 engine lately that wasn't going for less than $4k. don't forget another $1k to upgrade the transmission since it's an auto. W8's tend to eat torque converters like candy.

I drive a W8 everyday. My opinion is run like hell! Lol. Alot of unknowns with that one. The tiptronics are horrible. Find a running 6 speed.

.....or you could buy it (if they're asking $2k could probably get it for less), swap in a 1.8t or V6 (which are plenty) and have a 1.8T/V6 with all the W8 trim & goodies, which is what all the the 1.8T/V6 guys try to search out & scavenge to put in their Passats anyway.

As for the blown W8 engine, clean it up, get a nice piece of tempered glass (whatever size you choose) place it over it and have a nice/unique coffee table.
