EPC Light? No codes...

Hey guys

My dad told me tonight that the EPC light came on on his '02 1.8T today for around 25 minutes, and he said he felt it had reduced power a bit and idles at around 1100rpm now. When he got home he turned the car off, and started it up again, and the EPC light was out. I just scanned the car and there are no codes on it...

I've searched and seen a lot of people show codes for the ESS and say that changing out the ESS fixed the problem...is that the consensus around here? How many people have actually changed DBW pedal assemblies because of this?

Worked for me, The ESS was failing and sometimes the car would not even start. it would crank but no start. It died on me once, same issue, settles at idle 1100rpms or so, rough engine, low power.

Changed ESS, never saw the problem ever again. (EPC light still comes up I turn the switch to ON, but not when the car is running)

Same symptoms as Redwood for me. New speed sensor fixed the problem. It's a 50 dollar part and a half hour fix.
