Real slow on acceleration! How can I fix this?

I have a 1998 Passat 1.8T 20V and my acceleration is real bad, like it acts like it wants to go... but it doesn't at first, than picks up! I don't like that. What can I do to fix this so I can get a good acceleration.

    THANKS!

Have you ever driven a turbo car before? Has it always been like that? Sounds like normal turbo.lag to me...

No, I haven't driven one before. I had a Jeep before my B5. Is there anything I can do to change that? So it's normal?

Have someone who knows the Passat 1.8T drive your car and see if it's behaving right. You could be experiencing normal turbo lag; until it spools up, you have a little 1.8L engine trying to drag a 3300 lb. car. Not much you can do about it.

Hook up a vacuum / boost gauge to see what kind of boost you're getting now.

If you really want to feel some power you will need to budget for a chip and exhaust upgrade.

The problem you run into when upgrading to a 2 1/2" or 3" high-flow exhaust system is drone. The least expensive system will be one you build yourself - DIY Budget "Cat Back" Exhaust
