Trying to find P/N for bigger oil filter for 1.8T

As the title says I am trying to find the part number for the newer, larger oil filter for a 1.8T motor. I spent 10 minutes trying to find it with the search function with no luck. Can someone help me out here with a part number? Looking for a Bosch number if possible.

Purolator L40316, Wix 51333 / Napa Gold 1333. These are the filter sizes sometimes referred to as the Big Kahuna.

I just did mine and asked the local parts shop for their equivilent to the 51333, and they gave me a filter that was about 2/3 the size of the Napa Gold 1333 'Big Kahuna'. I was a bit disappointed, but at a cost of $5 vs. $40 for the Napa? I'll stick with it.

Seems to be a little confusion here. Is one of these the "Standard" and one the "Big Kahuna"?

Sounds like they gave you the original "standard" size. This is what I am trying to avoid.

I used to be able to get the 1333 at the local NAPA Autoparts, but not any longer - this thing is the big kahuna. The 1191 is the next size down. The 1333 was always $18, while the 1191 I got last week was $8.

Wix 51393 is the 'standard' size used prior to 2004.

Wix 51191/Purolator L30257 is the revised 'larger' size used 2004+ and supercedes 51393

Wix 51333/Purolator L40316 is the Big Kahuna

The Mobil 1 M1-301 and K&N HP-3001 filters spec'd for the 1.8t have a much lower bypass valve setting. There is much to debate, but I personally won't use them.

See this thread and draw your own conclusions.

Champion Laboratories ( http://www.champlabs.com/ ) is the North American supplier of oil filters to VW. Questions about their products can be address to their technical hot line. They have a 800 number, or you can send them an email. They don't make a "Big Kahuna" size filter equivalent to what is offered by Purolator or Wix.

Tyke, nah...It was more the size of the VW 'upgrade' filter size. The 1333 Big Kahuna is GIGANTIC, almost a foot long...

is the point of this larger filter to capture sludge? or just to increase oil capacity?

Its just a way to increase oil capacity, reducing heat load damage by spreading it around more oil. Theory was that the VW sump was too small for a turbocharged engine, hence the need for VW approved oils and slightly more capacity with the 1191 filter (and by extension, the 1333, which was not selected by VW).

To prevent sludge by having a larger oil capacity. Sludge doesn't normally show up in a oil filter unless you've introduced something like ARX, MMO, Kreen, etc., into the oil to remove it.

Why you want fit bigger filter? Do you know that oil filter is match with oil pump, oil amount, oil pressure and milage from fitting to change filter?

Having a larger oil filter allows for more oil in the system. This, at least in theory, should reduce the risk for sludge in the 1.8T. VW specifies a rather high pressure relief valve for it's oil filters. Using one with a lower setting would mean that if the filter were to go into by-pass more oil would pass through unfiltered. A filter doesn't often go into by-pass.
