FWIW forget the visor, pay $20 for the regular opener and use it. a 2003 is probably dead anyway. or will fail soon and VW charges HUGE money for replacment

Why not use it while it works? I still use mine and I love it. Although it does have its cavaites (can't use it when ignition isn't on, button must be held longer, etc), it's a convenience that the car has and so long as it works, just use it. Your argument is on the same lines as "don't use your heated seats, they will fail soon and will cost money to fix."

My '03 W8 homelink visor still works like new and it also looks like new, I say go for it and run it into the ground. You only have a homelink visor once or twice in a lifetime anyways.

I have owned a total of five vehicals with homelink visors and three of them were VW's. It is starting to be a common feature now. I had two Lincoln Navigators with them and two Touaregs and our Passat.

POS - every time you disconnect the batter is loses memory. I have a Sears door opener so it takes two people to program it.

I love mine. It took about ten minutes to program because I had to get out the step ladder and push a button on the mechanical unit, but it was worth it. My $.02: If you have it and it works, use it.

Really? The one on my 2004 is programmed to a friend's garage, and I'm sure I've used it since I replaced the battery. Works perfectly otherwise, too.
