I have my 2000 VW Passat GLX currently at 250,000 miles and going strong. The only thing that has been done is regular maintenance kind of work, nothing over the top other than a new alternator and replacing the stock vacuum hoses with SVH.
well, I tried and tried to get my car to 400k, but due to another blown head gasket (2nd HG in 2 years, starting to wonder if the head got warped ) and over $1000 into the car this month replacing blown hoses and coolant housings and parts, and I'm not putting another penny into the thing aside from getting it towed back to my place.
235k on my 2000 1.8t atw. I'm contemplating if I should suffer and install this cat I just bought. I'm really losing patience with this old piece of crap car. But I still love her.
193k on my 2000 1.8L. bought it with 77k...had sludge issues when I bought it. replaced turbo and some crank/main bearings then. also replaced the clutch while the engine was out. have had few problems since. not consuming any oil or smoking. starting to replace parts now that she is 14. many components have been replaced but they have given better service than most cars. mostly components, switches, valves, leather, etc. has stranded me only twice, and had to be towed once (due to my own incompetence). I still see many B5s on the road but I can't say the same for Toyotas of the same year. still stylish too.
2000 ATW 1.8t 5 Speed with 186000 miles.
Bought the car with 149000 2-1/2 to 3 years ago.
Replaced both torn CV joints within the first 6 months (750$).
Did rear rotors and pads a year later (The sound of no pad left really was quite noticeable lol) :icon_eek: (15 to have both rotors re-laved, and 10 for new pads) So $50 for rear breaks.
Did timing belt, water pump, tensioners, and assessory belts, Coolant(ECS ultimate kit) this past year $320 for the parts, 565 for labor.
Got stranded a few times for a faulty power distribution relay just recently fixed for $150.
Other than that, Mobil 1 Synthetic every 6000 mi/"Diesel Filter".
I'm thinking it needs new control arms, the steering is shakey(at best), and needs an alingment, otherwise, has been an awesome car. Plan to get an APR chip when they have the sale, and if I like it the GT28 turbo kit might be a possibility
Recently got a 2008 Honda Accord, for a backup.
Other than that, the inside is literally falling apart, but I've seen worse...
2005 1.8t 4mo tip 170,159. sludged, replaced tranny, new timing belt (not really anymore 20k), new brakes, forge dv. BUt have a k04 thx to steveinchicago but a cracked oil pan has that on hold for at least another month. And to add insult to injury I do have a thor skid plate next to my dads shed. Burn away.
2001 1.8T, 158.000 miles since new, no issues outside of ABS module and coil packs, but has not been my daily since 2007 and she probably does not get more then 1000 miles a year since then
My '02 B5.5 AWM Tiptronic has 182,xxx mi. Time for a timing belt change. Hasn't been too bad until late. Something not right right Front Left Brake. Locks up and hops instead of ABS kicking in.... that side can also intermitently pulses. Wonder if it is an ABS sensor. Has original ATF fluid, need to change that.
147k on my 2003 V6 Manual sedan. The 2 PO babied it, the interior is very good for a car with this many miles. Bought in November 2012 with 119k on it.
I just picked up a nice '05 GLS 4Motion sedan yesterday with 97k miles on it. I ended up getting it for $7,000 OTD, which I think is very good coming from a car dealer. It was originally listed for $8,995, then reduced to $7,995. They included a 6 month/8,000 miles drivetrain warranty for the price.
The dealer just rebuilt the turbo, otherwise everything seems in order.
Short list of things I need/want to do (no particular order): headlights (3M kit seems highly recommended), GROM Audio Bluetooth adapter, window tint, oil change (just to make sure it's synthetic), tires, fix the light for the passenger's side vanity mirror (I think I saw that discussed here). Maybe a couple other things that aren't coming to mind right now.
I noticed the front sunroof drains were already snipped. I'll have to attempt to check the rears. I also have to check the drains behind the battery.
My '98 B5 tdi has just passed 237,000, all original clutch, engine, exhaust, gearbox etc. On the second driver's door lock mechanism. Our later 104,000 B5.5 had a major explosion in the flywheel (those disastrous double-mass jobs) which cost a fortune and occurred the day we were due to tour the Pyrennees with friends - the B5 came to the rescue and performed perfectly. The later B5.5 (100bhp) is lucky to get 48mpg, but the B5 (110SE) with the aircon disconnected regularly achieves 58 to 60 mpg.
I'd opt for the B5 any day of the week.
132,000km on my 2004. Doing the front brakes (Brembo OEM rotors with pvd coating & TRW pads) this weekend, just got the warning lamp about the pad thickness ~ not bad I guess for 10 years )
2002 1.8T wagon @ 294k km (about 178k miles) and still going strong! Haven't taken it for a long drive yet but getting about 25mpg on my in-town 6 mile drive to work.
New to me & the most demanding vehicle I have owned but I'm a diehard tinkerer and love a challenge. Kinda like a high maintenance woman! Always needs her forehead stroked but is a thoroughbred when you take her for a ride!
98 1.8 - 365K
99 1.8 - 385K (sludge)
00 1.8 - 320K (sold to get another 00)
00 2.8 - 426K - cracked frame (not my fault)
01 1.8 - 301K (but check the new thread on my transmission problems or 301K may be all it gets)
I guess I should change my name? 4Mmiler?
