How do you replace the hood support/shock/lift on a 2001.5 passat?

I can't find a how to or DIY post in the club b5 forums..
Anyone out there know what tools i need and how to replace the hood support/strut/shock/lift please chime in. Also my original off my GLX is chrome; anyone know where i can buy an OEM direct replacement, or better quality replacement?

Flat head screw driver is all you need. Take a look at the original and look for a metal band at each connecting joint. Stick the screw driver under that band and pull, and it will open up the socket.

Install is just pushing the socket end over the ball.
