Price range for a timing belt install + waterpump? 2003 GLX B5

Hi,

I have a 2003 GLX with 95K. I was curious what the typical price range for a new timing belt & water pump would be (with installation). I seem to be finding about $1,200 from the local dealer (last time I called).

They are saying 105K is the right time to do it.

Any thoughts on a price range?

you might want to check out member 390 to da wheels .hes been doing members cars for less than half the dealers price,in haverstraw ny ,rockland county .i just had my sons TB done on his jetta,.....also when doing the timing belt its a good idea to also do the water pump,sepertine belt,coolant,thermostat,valve cover seals,cam seals,cam chain tensioner,roller, and pcv hoses i had mine done @ 75000,my indi said to wait untill 90000 next time,never wait untill 105000 ,unless your on waranty untill 100000 or feeling very lucky

Yeah 390tothewheels actually has a thread in this section and hes from NY. Seems like a good guy, can't wait to get my timing belt done so I won't worry about it anymore.

That price is about right for the dealer. Here in California we are seeing dealer estimates closer to $1400 for the job. I agree that 105,000 miles is too late. About 75,000 seems safe. My V6 is 6 years old with 51,000 miles but I'm doing the job this spring because I think I am more worried about the waterpump failing than the belt failing.

And I have the cash. Plus they say GW Bush is sending more this year.

I am planning to do my TB. I purchased parts for $200 (TB, Serpentine Belt,
Water Pump, Tensioner, Idler Pulley and Thermostat) all imports

Labor will cost between $200-300. A skilled mechanic can do the job in less then 4 hours.

A fair price for the whole shebang would be in the $600 to $800 range. As noted above, the parts are about $300.

I lost my Water Pump at 40 something K miles.
Any Aftermarket or Performance Pumps that we should buy, other than the VW OEM with Plastic Impeller???

Just a question, since I'm sure I'll loose my Water Pump again.

An Indy did my timing belt (whole kit) for $850.00. Blauparts has a good TB Kit. Two dealerships quoted me $1200 for the same job. A TB change is beyond my capabilities, so I am at the mercy of mechanics and it is not easy to find a trustworthy shop.
