most likely the flasher relay, which just so happens to be.....
The very same 'mergency flasher button you tried
drumroll, someone give this guy a part # and price pleasie

i know, iam a dork...... :weirdo:

no, really, the flasher relay is the emergency flasher button.
you just gots to pop it out wit' a couple o butter kanives.
then take to dealer, and say "I Want This". day hook you up

So If I replace the Emergency Flasher then my turn signals will work? If i where to take out the button, then none of the flashers would work?

you need the whole module, not just the button face. There are snaps on each side of the switch. Use one butter knife on each side of the button (as mentioned above) and then pull.

Check the hazard buttons connection. If the connection came out, the flashers won't work! Pull out the whole center module, and see if it is connected. If its in there good, then check the fuses. GOOD LUCK!

    flasher relay

If your fusdes are fine yu need to replace the relay on the dashboard. Pry it out and replace it, shouldn't be more than $30.oo at the dealer for the part. Snap it back in place and it should work fine. I replaced mine a while back.

I would suggest pull the radio out first and then you have plenty of room to push the hazzard relay through. The radio just slides out...Do a search for the homemade tool you'll need.

finally get the relay out (without pulling my pioneer HU out)....the clips are on the top and bottom and I just pull it out w/ a needlenose pliers.

for future reference, the part# for the hazard relay:
    3B0 953 235 B

Thanks to everyone for their input

i have changed mine 2 times so far. They had a differnet part number the second time. Maybe they reworked it. But on the second time before I changed it, I bent the clip that connects to the relay to make it blink and it lasted me another 4-6 months, then finally died....faulty part...$26 for a new one :thumbdow:

I just replaced my hazard relay, or "emergency light switch with relay" (part 3B0 953 235 D) as it is officially called. It was $26.42 shipped from vwparts.com. When installing it in my '98 GLS, I found it easiest to take out the bottom cover (of the 3 vertical button locations. Top being the hazard light, middle the heated seat, and my bottom being just a cover) first.

Then I pushed up on the heated seat switch, which tilted it so I could pull it out. Then I could push up on the hazard relay assembly in the same fashion and pull it out, pull the wiring off of it, and put on the new relay assembly. It didn't look like it would work to put a butter knife above and below it and slide it out; there are brackets in the way and the fit is too tight. It took less than 5 minutes, once I figured out how to do it.
