Hi, I've got a 2008 VW Passat 2.0 Tdi.
Just recently the turbo lag has really increased and at some points now, the turbo isn't kicking in till 2,500-3,000 rpm. I've also lost a bit of MPG I've noticed.
I've mentioned this stuff to a mechanic friend of mine and the first thing he said was the MAF. Also looking online seems to suggest this.
Now my friend isn't able to work on my car for a few weeks and it seems a simple enough job replacing it, so my questions are:
- Is it really as simple as unplugging the wiring, in clipping it all and replacing or is there more to it?
- I understand that as soon as I unclip the wiring, a fault code is generated and I'll have an error on the dash display, if I'm correct??? Then the car ignores the MAF and runs off a predetermined figure so should go back to slightly normal??? So if this is true, once I plug the new MAF in, will the error go away and go back to normal with the new MAF or will I have to go and get the fault cleared for it to work properly?
This is all assuming it is the MAF at fault and not something else. But anyway, thank you for any help in advance!
