I'd like for my next Passat to be a TDI. I've noticed that for some reason manual transmission TDIs are much more common (hence, cheaper). Is conversion possible or would it be best to just spend the extra money on getting the Automatic in the first place?
Not sure if it matters but when I say Automatic, I mean a Tiptronic.
I believe just the opposite is true. DSG's rule and manual transmissions come in a distant second. That said I like my SE manual better than our SEL Premium. All the extra bells and whistles put together don't add up to what the manual transmission offers.
Now to your question...
You may think I'm not being serious, but I am. It would be easier and more practical to remove the front and rear fascia from your manual car and to bolt them onto a car equipped with a DSG. Nothing is impossible of course. It's just that you'd be taking the impractical to the extreme.
I have heard of people switching the ALH engines from Auto to three pedal rowers. Seems like a bit of hassle though, yeah?
