If you own a Volkswagen TDI-equipped vehicle, you have some money coming your way.

Earlier today, the class action settlement was announced, revealing that VW diesel owners will get between $5,100 and $10,000 as a cash bonus, decided by a formula that Volkswagen has. On top of the cash, owners will have the option to either sell their car back to Volkswagen or get it fixed.

VW Diesel Owners Get up to $10K Each, Total Bill Hits $14.7B

Details on exactly how Volkswagen will pay back customers and the U.S. government over its diesel emissions scandal have been finalized.

To settle with owners, Volkswagen has put together a pool of $10.033 billion to cover the cost of buybacks, emissions fixes and cash settlements. The brand has also agreed to pay the US government $2.7 billion for environmental mitigation costs and another $2 billion is being spent on research into zero-emissions vehicles.

That brings the total cost of Volkswagen’s diesel scandal in the US to $14.7 billion. This is also the largest consumer auto industry class action settlement in U.S. history.

In September of 2015, it was discovered that Volkswagen has installed a defeat device in many of its diesel vehicles, allowing its cars to pass emissions tests while spewing illegal levels of pollution into the air.

Volkswagen Could Axe up to 40 Models

Volkswagen could cut as many as 40 models to help make way for the company’s next-generation of cars.

VW announced its future plans last week, stating its intention to build an onslaught of electric vehicles along with investing in ride-sharing services and autonomous driving. Billions of euros will be needed to find the new plan, as Volkswagen tries to reestablish itself as a green-car leader by 2025.

This will lead to the company cutting more than 40 current vehicle models according to German newspaper Handelsblatt. Currently, Volkswagen produces about 340 different models spread over its entire portfolio of brands which includes MAN, Audi, Skoda, Seat, Porsche and more.
